About the game

League of Legends is a team-based MOBA strategy game by Riot Games, released in 2009. Two teams of five players battle on a symmetrical map with the goal of destroying the enemy Nexus — the main building of the opponent's base. Each player chooses from hundreds of available champions with unique abilities and roles within the team.

The gameplay combines RPG and real-time strategy elements. Champions gain levels throughout the match, buying items and unlocking new ability ranks. The map is divided into three lanes and a jungle zone where neutral monsters grant temporary buffs. Success depends on team coordination, understanding of timings, and the ability to adapt to enemy actions.

The game is distributed under a free-to-play model: basic access to all champions is available through in-game currency, while cosmetic items are purchased with real money. Regular updates add new heroes, balance patches, and seasonal events. The esports scene of League of Legends is one of the largest in the world: the annual World Championship gathers millions of viewers.

The project is available on PC and Mac. Multiplayer and cooperative modes are supported. Over the years, the League of Legends universe has expanded beyond the game: spin-offs in different genres, comics, and the animated series Arcane from Netflix have been released. The game is regularly updated with biweekly balance patches, and the ranked system allows players to compete against others of similar skill level.
